I grew up in house that had bookshelves for walls, reading was common amongst my family. I never took much interest until I was 8 or 9 and even then I was very selective when it came to picking something to read, so I remember just skim reading through blurbs and random chapters of novels (I avoided anything educational like it was the plague, unless they had pictures in them).
My siblings and I would sit together and flick through Eyewitness's books on wild life, laughing and pointing at what ever ugly creatures we'd find saying. "Thats you!", or marvelling at the amazing scenery and ecosysystems around the world. On quiet nights before bed we'd huddle around the I Spy book to play, never really keeping score on who was winning but enjoying the game nonetheless.

Now that I look back at it, I learned a lot that way, It was truly a blessing to be surrounded by an abundance of books that contained so much knowledge that was so easily accessible. My parents grew up without the internet and so did my older siblings up until a certain point. I was more or less born in to it, but because of the influence from my parents and siblings and the way we were raised I don't remember even using google until I was maybe 13 years old.
Experiences like that are rare at the moment since everything is now online, but I'd like to replicate it somehow, combing the fun of an I Spy game with the interesting facts of the Eyewitness collections.
